SANSHIN DAY 2026

🎶 March 4th is “Sanshin Day”! 🎶

ー See it, hear it, touch it — Experience the heart of Okinawa through music —

“Sanshin Day” was created from a wordplay on the numbers 3 (san) and 4 (shi).

It was established in 1993 at the initiative of Ryukyu Radio Broadcasting in Okinawa.

The Sanshin is a traditional Okinawan three-stringed instrument that originated about 600 years ago, during the Ryukyu Kingdom era, from the Chinese sanxian.

It was first treasured as a court instrument and later spread into the daily lives of the people.
