45th Annual Powell Street Festival

Powell Street Festival has started to celebrate Japanese-Canadian heritage in Downtown Eastside of Vancouver where a huge Japanese community had existed before the World War 2. Powell Street is a name of a street that used to be called "Paueru Gai" by Japanese Canadian residents. The festival has served as a platform to connect people who have Japanese heritage as well as a charitable organization to reach out to Downtown Eastside neighbours in need. The festival marks the 45th anniversary this year. We are honoured to attend the festival.

We are going to perform a Okinawan folksong Tancha Mae, comtemporary songs Shima Uta and Hiyamikachi Bushi. We will add more descriptions about these songs to the blog posts closer to the festival date, so check out our blog as well!
